So now that you have your Wii and probably a few games, maybe Nintendo Land, ZombiU or Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and you will probably want to get your family and friends around to show it off and get those multiplayer games going, but hold on! You have your GamePad and maybe if you are lucky one controller and if you were really lucky, some extra’s like a stand and a GamePad charger.
You may well have some remotes and nunchuk’s from your old Wii setup but you are going to find out that unless they are Wii Plus Remotes that half the games on Nintendo Land won’t work with the standard remotes and who’s to know if this will be the case with more games on the Wii U going forward. So it’s time, perfect time in fact to upgrade the old remotes, get yourself some new controllers, get a charger or maybe even invest in some funky new 3rd party gear that’s raising some eyebrows. Yes it’s time to Pimp Your Wii U.
First up is all of the official Nintendo Gear which as we can safely say has always been reliable and solid, we really want to see some innovation, style and creative ideas with the 3rd party brands, but let’s take a look first at what is known and out there.
We already featured one fantastic looking piece of kit in the post ‘Is Your GamePad Battery running out right in the middle of the action?’.
We will however be producing both video and text reviews of any 3rd party branded products that we receive, so if you are one of those, please do get in contact, we want to hear from you.
Ok, so back to the official Nintendo gear available..
Nintendo Wii Plus Remote in White, Black, Pink, Blue and Limited Edition Red (bundled with the Wii Play Motion game)
Firstly we would like to point out that there are a couple of WIi U Remote Plus controllers available so far from Nintendo which are exactly the same as the original Wii Remote Plus controllers, just re-branded, so you can either get those or the originals, we have linked to the whole range available. The Black and White rebranded Wii U remote Plus controllers are available now, where as the pink and blu versions are available at the end of January 2013.
The Wii Remote Plus, is an updated Wii Remote with built-in Wii MotionPlus hardware, which gives players an incredible level of precision and gameplay accuracy without the need of additional add-ons. Has the same physical dimensions of the standard Wii Remote and all compatible peripherals can be plugged into the base of the Wii Remote Plus as before, such as the Nunchuk or Classic Controller. Functioning in exactly the same way as the Wii Remote with Wii Motion Plus connected together, the Wii Remote Plus enables players to see every twist of the wrist or arm, brought to life and faithfully replicated on the TV screen with the use of one, compact controller. Players of games such Wii Sports Resort and FlingSmash will be able to take full advantage of the enhanced accuracy and realistic motion control which the Wii Remote Plus offers, as every swing of a golf club or fling of Zip is reflected in real time on screen. Wii U’s Nintendo Land has 3 great multiplayer games including that can be only played with the Wii Plus Remotes.
- Legend of Zelda: Battle Quest
- Pikmin Adventure
- Metroid Blast
Nintendo Wii U Nunchuk – Available in Black and White
There are plenty of games on both the Wii and Wii U that require use of the nunchuk, from Nintendo Land, Rabbids, Black Ops 2, Just Dance New Mario Bros and more on the Wii U, to Zelda, Super Mario and hundreds of more original Wii titles.
Currently it’s unknown how many future games will have the nunchuk used, there appears to be a lack of information coming from Nitendo as to how many titles are in the pipeline involving the nuchuk or wii remote, but I’m sure in the coming months this will be confirmed as game developers announce progress with the titles. So here are the official Nintendo Nunchuks available that have been re-branded Wii U
Ergonomically designed to perfectly fit a player’s hand, the Nunchuk controller builds on the simplicity of the Wii Remote controller and goes an extra step to meet the needs of gamers. The Nunchuk controller connects to the Wii Remote controller at its expansion port and is used in conjunction with the Wii Remote controller.
Take control of your Wii U games with the extra analogue stick and buttons presented by the Nunchuk.
Nintendo Wii U Pro Controller – Currently only available in Black
If you’re more familiar with classic gaming controllers, the Nintendo Wii U Pro Controller is perfect for you, featuring carefully positioned thumb sticks and buttons for a comfortable gaming experience. If you are planning on playing multiplayer games including Fifa 13 you are going to want at least 2 of these to get the most out of your gaming experience, but with ZombiU, Call of Duty or any FPS games this will be essential. We have tested ours out and with up to 80 hours of solid gameplay in every charge it’s a must have.
Wii U Power Up
Whether it’s your GamePad, the Pro Controllers or Wii Remotes there are a lots of options out there for keeping your power to the max for longer game time and less breaks, because seriously who wants to have a break anyway. (Disclaimer: We do recommend regular breaks from gaming though, it could cause short and long term damage), here is Nintendo’s own GamePad Cradle and Stand option, solid, minimal styling and easy to use.
Nintendo Wii U GamePad Cradle and Stand
Containing a charging cradle and custom stand for your Nintendo Wii U GamePad, this is the ultimate accessory kit for any Nintendo fan that takes their gaming seriously. The cradle provides a safe place to store your GamePad while it is charging and the stand gives you a place to rest your controller when not in use during gameplay.
Nintendo Wii U GamePad Accessory Set
Whether you need the official gear or are happy with 3rd party accessories of this nature, these are nice and simple, will be of a high quality as expected with official Nintendo accessories and will do the job well enough.
The Nintendo Wii U GamePad Accessory Set includes a custom screen protector, a cleaning cloth and GamePad Stylus.
We can certainly see a need for the protector, especially with pets and children in the average household likely to be getting hold of the GamePad or knocking it over and walking across it when it’s on the sofa. The cleaning cloth again will be very handy and the Stylus will be as useful as any Stylus is with a Tablet, giving extra accuracy to whatever you are using it for.
In our next few episodes of Pimp Your Wii, we’ll dive into 3rd Party Accessories, so as mentioned previously we’d like to get in some samples of any US, UK or any other country based brands to showcase and review on the blog, social media channels and on our YouTube Channel, so please get in touch, via firstname.lastname@example.org with inquiries.
